from JaMi's Garden Flower Shopping The
flower shopping time will soon be upon us.
We have read our gardening magazines all winter and are ready to
tackle all the plans we have made.
Well,
this is a new year and we’re going to help you “turn over a new
leaf”…. Give you some suggestions to make this spring a little easier. First,
look at your garden and make a plan.
Examine what plants did not work last year.
Get out your “Have-to-have” list you spent all winter
preparing. See how the plants
listed can be incorporated into your existing space or will you find, like
me, that you will have to make your garden larger … again? Now
give you list a final check. Don’t
be afraid to push your zone. I
have plants in my garden that are zone 6.
There can be several microclimates around your home.
Become familiar with them and try new things.
How about a new color scheme?
Gardening is an adventure which starts anew each and every year. Now
that you did your homework, your plan and list is ready to go, it’s time
to shop. It’s a good idea
to bring something to line your trunk such as a cardboard box, plastic tub
or even a plastic garbage bag. It
will line your trunk and protect it from soil and moisture.
The plastic tub will even hold water if some of the plants are dry. Check
the plant material to make sure you are not introducing insects or
diseases. An ounce of
prevention goes doubly so for gardeners.
I know of a gardener who received a beautiful hosta from a friend.
Hidden in the root system was a piece of Bishops Weed.
You guessed it. Bishops
Weed is now a permanent resident in her garden. (Note:
If anyone knows how to kill Bishops Weed without destroying your
entire flower bed, please email me at jan@jamiscountryliving.com.
I am sure everyone would appreciate that knowledge.
Have fun shopping!
